Dead Bug Walkin's written instructions for how to prepare for a Chemical/Biological Only Bed Bug Treatment.

***To prepare for your bed bug chemical treatment, we ask that you take the following preparation measures to ensure our treatment is completely effective***

There are two different types of prepped trash bags…

1. Fabrics (Example: clothes, bedding, blankets, etc.) (The fabrics will be put into trash bags 1st, then go thru dryer before bringing back into home after treatment)

2. Hard items (Anything not facbric that is inside of drawers plus under/on beds, couches or chairs). All drawers must be empty in bedrooms and living rooms or any areas that you sit or lay in for long periods of time. (The hard items will go into a trash bag, then put a no pest strip into bag and seal off trash bag for no less than 72 hours to kill bed bugs inside). Do not put other plastic bags like Walmart bags or other trash bags into a prepped hard items bag. This is very important to remember.

All prepped items (trash bags) must be stored in a garage, shed, outside or wherever you prefer until after we've completed our treatment appointment.

Supplies needed…

1. Large thick trash bags . It's best to go with 55 gallon trash bags. No matter what gallon the trash bag is there thickness of the bag should be no less than 1.5 mil.

2. Marker and painters tape for labeling bags (optional).

3. Duct tape. The duct tape is for sealing off the trash bags as well as patching up any holes made in the bag accidentally.

4. Hot Shot No Pest Strips . These strips are put into trash bags with things that you need to prep but cannot go through a dryer like your fabrics. They kill bed bugs within 72 hours as long as the trash bag is completly sealed up. (They are available in store at Home Depot or Lowe's only or on the internet). The strips come with one strip in each package. The good news is that you will cut the strip into 4 equal pieces. Then each quarter piece will be put into the trash bags with items that are not fabrics. We call these items hard items.

Chemical Prep List:

Vacuum everything before we arrive. This includes floors, baseboards and any place a pesticide dust like diatemacious Earth has been applied. This allows our chemicals to actually stick in place. After treatment is done and the chemical is dry you can vacuum again but do not mop near walls or furniture or you will remove the chemical residual. When done vacuuming always immediately dump out contents of vacuum into a sealed off airtight trash bag and set in outside trash. This is very important to do. It makes the treatment more successful. This is also a great way to dramatically lower the insect population.
All drawer contents in bedrooms and living rooms should be put into trash bags regardless of what is inside them.
Pick up all clutter, "clothes, toys, trash, etc". Place the items that your keeping into trash bags as they may be infested also. Anything left on the floor will be assumed it needs to be sprayed. Do not just cram everything into your closets. This will make your Bed Bug Treatment unsuccessful.

All facbrics inside of your home will go into trash bags until after the treatment, then after the treatment you'll run the fabric contents through your dryer on high heat for one hour. (This is the most important step in a chemical treatment).
Strip all bedding from beds right before we arrive. This doesnt give the bugs much time to hide. Put the bedding into trash bags. Place the bags contents in the dryer on high heat for 1 hour before you return the bags contents to your home to ensure not to infest the room again. Place dryer on the highest heat setting for at least an hour. This will kill the bed bugs and their eggs. Always use the dryer 1st then the washer if needed. Then dry again on the highest heat. Place in a clean trash bag and seal off after finishing if done before we treat. If you use the washer 1st your giving them a chance to survive because they can get splashed out of the water. Always throw away used bags as they may be infested.

If closets are full of non fabrics they will need to be decluttered. Prep items that need to be removed to declutter.
Toys need to be separated into two groups. One group is toys that can be put in the dryer and the other group is toys that can't. Place separate groups in trash bags. Take the bags with fabrics toys in them to the laundry to be heated. The toys that can't be heated, (in the dryer), will have Hot Shot pest strips placed in them. The no-pest strips will kill bed bugs and their eggs. We do not sell these strips but you can find them online or at Lowe's/Home Depot. Place all bags no matter the contents in your garage (or another place you like) until after your treatment is completed. We dont want any bags in the house because they would be in the way.

We'll tell you how long it will take. Check to make sure they're dead before taking toys or contents out once its done. If still alive do for the same amount of time again, but you won't have to if done correctly the 1st time. The bags with strips in them need to be shook every once in while to make sure that everything is being treated.
Infant beds will be treated differently than older children's. Certain areas cannot be treated with chemicals. If there's a problem we will tell you.

Laundry Instructions:

You'll want to use your dryer or laundromat to heat anything cloth in your whole home such as clothing, blankets, bedding, stuffed animals, sheets, towels,etc. Always heat 1st! This is to be done after we have completed our treatment, not before.

Take the sealed trash bags to the laundry and place entire bag in the dryer before opening bag and removing items. Dry all items on high heat for at least 1 hour. DO NOT WASH FIRST. After cloth items have been heated for the full hour you may wash and redry both on high heat. Please throw away all used bags as they could be infested. Use the highest heat setting you can.

Bed bug covers…

*You can buy bed bug covers for your box springs and mattresses if you'd like. Especially the box springs. If you can only afford to do one, do the box springs. The covers have special zippers that keep anything in or out of them. You can find them at Home Depot, Lowe's, Wal-Mart or online. Usually ranging from $30 or $60 depending on size of bed. This is only a recommended practice though. It's not mandatory. If you do plan to purchase zip up covers they must be present and on the mattress or box springs before we start applying our chemical bed bug treatment sprays to your home on treatment day.

Unfinished prep work…

***Anything left undone can cause problems and this will affect the outcome of your treatment, so we do not treat unfinished prepped homes. We will do our part, "extermination of the bed bugs", but you have to do your part as well. Basically your infested rooms need to be bare of clothes, bedding (leave bed bug covers on), and paper work next to infested items. Charge of $100 may be applied if prep is not done correctly. Nobody wants this to happen, so please follow directions and make this go as seamless as possible. Doing everything to the "T" will save you money and your sanity. Most of the time we are able to get rid of the bed bugs and their eggs in 1-2 treatments when using only insecticides, but there's alot of factors that can cause another or more treatments to be needed. We always do our best to get it done with the least amount of money spent possible for you. The amount of furniture items will affect how long it may take to complete the treatment.
